THE VILLAGE OF EYAM

The year was 1665 when the village of Eyam, Derbyshire was touched by the deadly Great Plague by a flea contaminated parcel of fabric from London.

Instead of fleeing the villagers decided to the ultimate self-sacrifice of staying in order to contain the pandemic and not infect other villages.

 

 

Of the 350 people who lived there, 260 had succumbed to the plague.

ON BOARD THE TITANIC

In homage to the 112th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, here are pictures from the collection of Fr. Browne S.J., an Irish member of the Jesuit order who survives the disaster taken just days before the doomed liner went down to its watery grave.
